After managing a lift of 145kg with her first attempt, Deng passed the test of 151kg at the second time of asking to secure her country's seventh gold medal at Astana Congress Center.

It bettered her previous continental mark of 146kg, set in Japanese city Kitakyushu in September 2018.

Nigeria’s Loveline Obiji claimed silver with 150kg, while Egypt’s Randa Mahmoud took bronze with 143kg.

Poland’s Marzena Zięba broke her own European record of 134kg, but her best lift of 137kg was only good enough for a fifth-placed finish behind Egypt’s Nadia Ali, who registered 138kg.

In the men's over-107kg event, Iran's Siamand Rahman comfortably claimed a third world title, despite finishing significantly short of his world record.

The world's strongest Paralympian, who suffered his last defeat back in 2010 at the World Championships in Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur, managed lifts of 250kg and 265kg – both of which were good enough to triumph. 

With victory secured, he retired from the competition and did not make his third attempt.

Rahman's world record of 310kg, set at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, remains in tact. 

His compatriot Mansour Pourmirzaei finished second with 236kg, while Iraq's Faris Al-Ageeli came third with 235kg.

The United States' Antonio Deandre Martin ranked fourth with an Americas record-breaking lift of 227kg.

Action is due to conclude tomorrow with the World Championships' first-ever mixed team event.
