The United States increased their gold medal tally to nine from 10 events after winning the men's foil and women's épée team events on day five of the Pan American Fencing Championships in Toronto.

In the men's foil final at Delta Hotels Toronto Airport and Conference Centre, the US beat Canada 45-27.

It followed a 45-25 win over Chile in the semi-finals.

Chile went onto lose 45-28 against Brazil in the bronze medal match.

Canada had defeated Brazil 45-41 in the other last-four encounter.

The women's épée final saw the US overcome Brazil 44-33.

They had earlier beaten Argentina 45-17 in the semi-finals.

Brazil defeated Canada 45-38 in the penultimate round.

The third-place playoff was won 45-40 by Canada at the expense of Argentina.

Action in Toronto is due to conclude tomorrow with the men's épée and women's sabre team events being held.
