Tunisia’s Wassim Mtarrab produced a world record throw on the final day of the Tunis World Para Athletics Grand Prix.

The home favourite achieved a distance of 20.12 metres in the third round of the men’s F51/32 discus competition at the Stade Olympique de Radès.

His throw added nearly two metres onto the previous world record in the F32 discipline, set back in 2017 by Athanasios Konstantinidis of Greece.

A second Tunisian victory of the day came on the track as Yassine Gharbi emerged as the winner of the men’s T54 200 metres.

He produced a time of 25.47sec to win the race as he builds towards competing at the World Championships in Dubai in November where he is set to target success in four events.

Azerbaijan’s Elena Chebanu secured two gold medals on the final day of Africa’s World Para Athletics Grand Prix event.

The Paralympic silver medallist triumphed in the women’s T11/12 long jump competition by achieving a distance of 5.21m.

Chebanu then achieved a victory on the track by winning the women’s T12 200m event in a world leading time of 24.99.

There were victories in the men’s T46 1500m for Bulgaria’s Hristiyan Stoyanov, who finished in a time of 3min 56.25sec.

Tunisia’s Achraf Lahouel won the T13/20 1500m competition in 3:53.10.
