The Dutch star exacted revenge on world number two Yui Kamiji as she turned last year's final defeat into a straight sets 6-0, 6-1 victory.

She now holds all four Grand Slam titles after winning the 2018 Wimbledon and US Open titles as and the Australian Open in January.

There was more glory for de Groot when she teamed up with compatriot Aniek van Koot to claim the women's doubles title.

In a tense final, the Dutch duo prevailed 3-6, 6-4, 10-4 over Kamiji and Italian Giulia Capocci. 

In the men's tournament, Argentina's Gustavo Fernández won the singles title in straight sets to become world number one.

Second seed Fernández was runner-up in last year's tournament but was in imperious form as he cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win against Britain's Gordon Reid.

After despatching Briton Alfie Hewett in the semi-finals, the Argentine needed just 70 minutes to secure a second French Open title.

An ecstatic Fernández, who overhauled Japan's Shingo Kunieda at the top of the world rankings, said: "I am processing what happened.

"I am very happy, I played a great match against a very dangerous opponent.

"It is a feeling that I would put in a little bottle on the bedside table and have always with me. "

Top seed Dylan Alcott became the first quad wheelchair champion after the division made its debut in Paris.

Up against second seed American David Wagner in the final, Australian Alcott put his previous Grand Slam experience to use to record a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory.
