Hosts France overwhelmed South Korea to triumph 4-0 in the first game of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.

They dominated in front a sell-out home crowd at Parc des Princes in Paris, delighting the 45,261 fans with an impressive performance.

Despite scoring their first in the ninth minute, France could have already had a couple of goals by that time.

Eugénie Le Sommer finally capitalised on her side's intense attacking pressure to score the first goal of the tournament.

Griedge Mbock Bathy then had an emphatic volleyed goal ruled out for offside by the video assistant referee, but 6ft 2in centre-back Wendie Renard showed her expertise in the air by heading home in the 35th and 45th minutes.

The match had already been won by the half-time whistle but France continued to command the game in the second-half.

Amandine Henry made the result certain when she curled the ball round South Korea's goalkeeper from just outside the penalty box in the 85th minute.

France now top Group A with three points, with Norway and Nigeria set to play at the Stade Auguste-Delaune in Reims tomorrow.

Group B is also due to under way, with two-times World Cup winners Germany taking on China at Roazhon Park in Rennes and Spain meeting South Africa at Stade Océane in Le Havre.

Nine French cities are hosting the month-long tournament in total.
