Brazil’s Agatha Bednarczuk and Eduarda Santos Lisboa progressed to the quarter-finals in front of a home crowd at the Itapema Open.

Agatha and Duda were forced to battle in their latest match at the International Volleyball Federation Beach World Tour event.

The defending champions lost the opening set against Spain’s Liliana Steiner and Elsa McMillian, but hit back to win 19-21, 21-17, 15-13.

Their reward is a quarter-final clash with Alix Klineman and April Ross, the Americans winning 21-16, 12-21, 15-10 against compatriots Summer Ross and Sara Hughes.

They will now meet Canada’s Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes, who beat Maria Elisa Antonelli and Carol Salgado of Brazil.

Brazil’s Talita Antunes and Taiana Lima will face Netherlands’ Joy Stubbe and Marleen van Iersel in the last eight, while Russia’s Nadezda Markroguzova and Svetlana Kholomina take on Canada’s Heather Bansley and Brandie Wilkerson.

In the men’s competition, the Dutch duo of Christiaan Varenhorst and Steven van de Velde overcame two home pairings to reach the quarter-finals.

They will now face Marco and Esteban Grimalt of Chile.

United States’ Casey Patterson and Chase Budinger battled to a 19-21, 24-22, 19-17 win over Switzerland’s Adrian Heidrich and Mirco Gerson in their latest match.

The duo will now face Poland’s Bartosz Losiak and Piotr Kantor.
