Spain have progressed to the final of the European qualification event for the beach soccer tournaments at the 2019 Association of National Olympic Committees World Beach Games.

The hosts comfortably defeated Italy 4-1 at Complex Esportiu Futbol Salou, with Llorenç Gómez grabbing a brace. 

Spain will meet Russia in the final after the latter edged past Switzerland 4-3. 

In making the semi-finals, the four teams had already secured places at San Diego 2019.

The team that finishes fifth will still have a chance to qualify as they will go through to a play-off against the nation that finishes third in the South American Football Confederation qualifiers.

There were upsets in the the play-off for fifth place, with Belarus beating France 5-3 before Ukraine eased past Portugal 5-2. 

The play-offs will continue tomorrow, taking place alongside the final.

In the women's round robin tournament, England surprised leaders Switzerland with a 3-0 victory, while Spain thrashed the Czech Republic 9-3. 

Going into the final day of the competition tomorrow, Switzerland still top the group with six points, while Russia are second with five and England third on four.

The top two teams will qualify for the ANOC Beach Games.
