France defeated England in the final of the European Team Squash Championships to deny the hosts a ninth consecutive title in Birmingham.

The second seeds beat the top seeds 2-1 at Edgbaston Priory Club.

It was only the second time in the competition's 30-year history that England had lost in the final. 

Belgium came third following a 2-0 victory against Scotland. 

There was joy for England in the men's competition, however, with the team winning 3-1 against Spain to take the title.

Scotland upset top seeds and defending champions France 3-0 to earn bronze. 

In Kuala Lumpur, the top seeds in the men and women's Asian Individual Squash Championships reached their respective finals.

India's Saurav Ghosal recorded a 11-2, 11-6, 11-4 victory against Malaysia's Ng Eain Yow to progress.

He will now face Hong Kong's Leo Au Chun Ming, who caused an upset against compatriot and second seed Yip Tsz-fung with a 11-3, 11-8, 11-4. win.

Annie Au will play in the final against the women's second seed, Joshna Chinappa of India.

The Hong Kong star battled past Malaysia's Low Wee Wern 11-6, 11-13, 13-11, 11-4.

Chinappa triumphed 11-7, 12-10 11-3 against Sivasangari Subramaniam of Malaysia. 

The finals will take place tomorrow.
