Seven South Korean fencers qualified for the main draw of the women's competition at the International Fencing Federation (FIE) Sabre Grand Prix in Seoul. 

The first to qualify was Kim Ji-young, who defeated Italy's Caterina Navarria 15-9 at SK Handball Gym.

She will now play Spain's Lucia Martin-Portugues in the round of 64.

Hwang Seona edged past Elizabeth Tartakovsky of the United States 15-14 to set up a clash with another American opponent, Dagmara Wozniak.

Yoon Ji-su recorded two victories to qualify, beating Italy's Benedetta Baldini 15-8 and Argentina's Maria Belen Perez Maurice 15-7.

The fourth South Korean to qualify was Seo Ji-yeon with a 15-8 win against Clara Laurent of France.

Her compatriots Choi Shin-hui, Yang Ye-sol and Jeon Su-in also progressed. 

The competition continues tomorrow.
