The Cyprus Olympic Committee (COC) and Polish Olympic Committee (PKO) have renewed for another four years their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), during a signing ceremony held at Olympic House in Nicosia.

The protocol was signed by the Presidents of the COC and PKO, Dinos Michaelides and Andrzej Kraśnicki, respectively, in the presence of the Polish Ambassador to Cyprus Irena Lichnerowicz-Augustyn.

Iwona Łotysz accompanied Kraśnicki to Cyprus.

The MoU covers exchanges of athletes and specialists in sport and Olympic education.

It encourages athletes to participate in sports events held in the two countries and promotes the exchange of information on issues of common interest, the organisation of conferences, lectures and seminars in both countries and coordination on actions within the Olympic Movement.

Speaking during the ceremony, Michaelides noted Cypriot sports would gain significant benefits from the opportunities offered by the partnership with Poland.

He also congratulated the PKO, which celebrates its centenary this year.

Kraśnicki, who is also a member of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) Executive Committee, noted the agreement was a big step forward in improving the cooperation between Poland and Cyprus in pursuit of the common goals and visions of the two committees in the field of the Olympic Movement and Olympic values.

During its visit to the Olympic House, before the signing of the MoU, the Polish delegation toured the Cyprus Olympic Museum and attended an extraordinary meeting with the COC Executive Committee.

Almost all of the summer and winter sports federations offices are based in Olympic House in Nicosia.

COC also hosted an official dinner, honouring the PKO for its 100 years of history.

Among those in attendance was Lichnerowicz-Augustyn, EOC treasurer Kikis Lazarides, Cyprus Sports Organization President Andreas Michaelides and representatives of the Greek Embassy.

They were joined by representatives of the sponsors of the COC – OPAP Cyprus, which engages in operation, management and administration of sports betting and lottery games, and telecommunications company CYTA – and members of the COC Board.
