Athletes can apply for a fund of £50,000 ($66,148/€58,734), privately donated by the family of Sir John Hanson, a senior British diplomat who died in January 2017. 

The grant will be distributed over the next three years and will contribute to travel, competitions, coaching, kit and equipment. 

“We are so grateful to the Hanson family, who are good friends of Commonwealth Games England, for the opportunity to provide five athletes with this scholarship," said Commonwealth Games England chief executive Paul Blanchard.

"We hope this funding will help to support young athletes in their journey to, hopefully, a successful performance at a home Games.”

The application deadline is April 28 and successful athletes will be announced around the milestone of three years to go until Birmingham 2022.

In order to be eligible, athletes must be 19 years old or younger at the time of the application deadline, or 22 years old or younger for Para-athletes. 

They must have already represented England or Great Britain at junior or international level and must be part of a performance pathway and recognised by their national governing body.
