Norway’s Johannes Høsflot Klæbo and Ingvild Flugstad Østberg sealed the overall International Ski Federation Cross-Country World Cup titles today with first and third place finishes respectively in the final races of the season in Québec City.

In an exact repeat of yesterday’s top three, 28-year-old Østberg was beaten by both her compatriot Therese Johaug and Sweden’s Stina Nilsson in the pursuit 10 kilometres women's race, but with her nearest rival in the overall standings Natalia Nepryaeva finishing 12th, making the podium proved more than enough to give Østberg the crystal globe.

She finished in 24min 10.2sec, while Olympic sprint champion Nilsson won her third race in a row in 23:55.1 and Johaug, a seven-time world champion returning from a doping ban this season, came second in 24:08.0.

It all means Østberg ends the season on 1,654 points, 223 ahead of Russia’s Nepryaeva, while Johaug finished in third place overall and as the distance World Cup winner.

In the men's pursuit 15km event, Klæbo won his third race in succession to defend his World Cup title and end the season in dominant fashion.

The 22-year-old triple Olympic champion won the season ending race in 29:05.4, 2.4 seconds ahead of Canada’s Alex Harvey, who also came second yesterday, while Russia’s Alexander Bolshunov finished third in 29:08.3.

Even having won 11 races this season before today’s event, Klæbo took to the start line just 42 points ahead of Bolshunov in the overall standings, meaning a slip up could have cost him the crystal globe.

Making no mistake though, victory sees him end the season as World Cup champion by a margin of exactly 100 points over his Russian rival.

A further 200 points for today’s victory put Klæbo onto 1,717 points overall.

Norway’s Sjur Roethe, who finished down in 10th in today’s race, ends the season in third overall on 974 points.
