Aniek Van Koot ended the hopes of home favourite Dana Mathewson in the semi-finals of the International Tennis Federation Cajun Classic.

Mathewson had impressed at the tournament at Lamar Tennis Center in Baton Rouge, the American having reached a maiden semi-final at the wheelchair tennis Super Series event.

She began as the underdog against second seed Van Koot and proved unable to overcome her Dutch opponent.

Van Koot secured a 7-5, 6-3 win to progress.

She will face top seed Diede De Groot, who won 7-6, 6-2 against Marjolein Buis in an all-Dutch affair.

De Groot and Van Koot have already secured the women’s doubles title, the duo combining to beat Mathewson and Colombia’s Angelica Bernal 6-1, 6-1 in today’s final.

In the men’s singles, Japan’s Shingo Kunieda eased into the final having beaten Britain’s Alfie Hewett 7-5, 6-0.

Kunieda will face France’s Nicolas Peifer tomorrow after he beat Argentina’s Gustavo Fernandez 6-4, 6-4.

The men’s doubles final saw Peifer and fellow Frenchman Stephane Houdet beat British pair Hewett and Gordon Reid 6-2, 7-5.

Quad singles top seed David Wagner missed out on a place in tomorrow’s final.

The American suffered a 6-1, 7-6 defeat to Australia’s Heath Davidson.

Japan’s Koji Sugeno then overcame South Africa’s Lucas Sithole 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the second semi-final.

There was success for United States in the doubles final, with Wagner and Nicholas Taylor claiming a straight sets win.

The duo beat Davidson and Sugeno 7-5, 6-4.
