At the FIE Women's Epee World Cup in Chengdu, Germany's Beate Christmann set up a tie against the number one seed in the preliminary round, Magdalena Piekarska of Poland, following a victory over Australia's Dianna Gu.

The second seed in the preliminary round, Hungary's Eszter Muhari, will face Venezuela's Betyumil Posada.

Posada defeated Hong Kong's Chu Ka Mong 7-6 to progress.
