Home favourite Evelyn Silvestro won the women's singles title on a day of rowing medal action at the 2019 South American Beach Games in Rosario in Argentina.

Silvestro clocked an unrivalled time of 30min 56.65sec at the Blue Stadium with Chile's Danyela Álvarez second in 31:42.64 and Ecuador's Kristen Del Rosario third in 32:13.68.

In the men's singles event, Peru's Álvaro Torres came out on top in 29:02.19.

Venezuela's José Guipe was the runner-up in 29:10.18, while Rosario native Federico Pacheco finished third in 29:14.39.

The men's and women's doubles races took centre stage in the afternoon.

History was made in the women's competition as Rocio Valdez and Nicole Martinez secured Paraguay's first-ever gold medal at a South American Beach Games by winning in 29:58.29.

Argentina's Milagros Porta and Maria Martina Geminiani took the silver medal in 30:09.38 and Chile's Antonia Zanetta and Sophia Miranda grabbed the bronze in 31:16.05.

In the men's event, Argentina's Francisco Schoo and Franco Calvo triumphed in 26:50.00.

Paraguay's Javier Insfran and Matias Ramirez clinched the silver medal in 26:53.65, while Chile again climbed to third place on the podium thanks to a time of 27:50.06 for Pedro Canales and Marcelo Poo.

Action in Rosario is due to continue tomorrow.
