The fund was handed over to Hang, who also serves as President of the Cambodian Taekwondo Federation, by ADF executive director Cho Nam-chul and Seok-jae Kang, senior consultant for the "Taekwondo Cares" programme.

In January, the ADF gave World Taekwondo KRW₩ 100 million (£67,000/$88,000/€78,000) in a designated donation, which should be used for the Taekwondo Cares project to help empower the disadvantaged in Asian developing countries.

World Taekwondo plans to use the donation for free taekwondo education and training in Cambodia, Nepal and Sri Lanka, among other countries.

At the ceremony, the ADF also provided Hang with scholarships for 33 selected university students.

They will receive $500 (£378/€443) per year for four years.

If the students want to continue their education after graduation in South Korea, Cho said that he will consider offering them scholarships.

The ceremony attracted the 33 scholarship recipients and dignitaries such as Korean Ambassador to Cambodia Oh Nak-young.

Also present was Kim Sethany, vice-education minister of Cambodia and co-President of Global CamStar (GCS) Cambodia National Chapter, and Robert Hwang, the other co-President of GCS Cambodia National Chapter.

"This event is very meaningful as it takes place just less than one week before Korean President Moon Jae-in's state visit to Cambodia and I wish to thank World Taekwondo and the ADF for their projects in Cambodia," Oh said.

Cho added: "Besides the taekwondo development and scholarship projects, the ADF positively considers such projects as medical and Korean language education in Cambodia."

Hang thanked World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue and the ADF for initiating the programmes.

He said they will greatly help develop taekwondo in Cambodia and cement bilateral relations between Cambodia and South Korea.

World Taekwondo signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the ADF, the International Center for Korean Culture and Seoul-based social organisation Global Common Society International last year.
