The Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) have talked up the success of their Team Brazil Training Centre in Rio de Janeiro, saying many foreign athletes and teams have used its facilities since the beginning of the year.

Managed by the COB since 2008, the centre in the Maria Lenk Aquatic Park is home to Brazilian athletes from athletics, karate, artistic gymnastics and judo, among other sports.

According to the COB, since the start of the year athletes and coaches from other countries have also been using the centre.

The last group to train at the facility were reportedly the Austin Spurs basketball team, a partner team of the National Basketball Association side the San Antonio Spurs.

The head of Russia's national artistic swimming team Tatiana Pokrovskaya also gave a lecture to "several athletes and coaches" from Brazil.

The number of questions asked at the end "evidenced the interest Brazilians have in the methods of the five-times Olympic champion", the COB said in a statement.

Pokrovskaya herself said their collaboration with Brazil started back in 1995.

"We love training here because the pool is spectacular, wonderful," she said.

"Despite the heat you can work in the shade.

"As we train year round in the indoor pool because it is so cold, we wanted to give the girls a chance to train at this outdoor pool, in Rio de Janeiro."

The COB also said last week that three Italians and a Ukrainian swimmer, Andriy Govorov, were using the strength and conditioning facilities.

Govorov is the current world record holder for the men's 50 metre butterfly and is coached by Brazil's Arilson Silva.

"It is a highly effective structure because we have access to all facilities," Govorov is quoted as saying.

"To the leading athletes it is really important to have the laboratory, the elite performance and the excellent pool just a few steps away.

"I'm really loving it."

In January, some of Britain's top divers, including Rio 2016 Olympic champion Jack Laugher, two-time Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley and Daniel Goodfellow, also trained at the centre.
