Wang Haitao, the skip who led his country to victory at Pyeongchang 2018, is aiming for another major prize at The Peak and recorded day one wins over South Korea and Latvia.

The Koreans were beaten 5-2 before Latvia were dispatched 7-4.

In the latter game, Wang scored three points with his final stone to secure the win.

Russia, skipped by Andrei Smirnov, were the other country to win twice today to join China at the top of the round-robin phase.

They followed up a 7-3 win over Germany in the opening session by easing past Estonia 11-1.

Defending champions Norway, again skipped by Rune Lorentsen, also enjoyed a good start as they won their only game of the day against Slovakia, 8-4.

"I feel that we had a really good game," said Lorentsen. 

"We struggled a little to fit the stones on the [delivery] sticks but after the break we adjusted and it was okay. 

"I think both teams played very well."

Switzerland and United States also won their sole matches today as the Swiss disappointed hosts Scotland with a 5-4 success.

The Americans pipped Estonia, who lost twice today, 7-6.

Latvia, making their World Championship debut, preceded their loss to China with a surprise 7-6 win over Canada in the first session.

"I don't understand the feeling yet," said Latvian skip Polina Rozkova.

"Probably I'm happy, yes, I'm happy for sure."

Wheelchair curling is a mixed sport with the round-robin stage running until Friday (March 8).

The teams ranked first and second at the end will progress directly to the semi-finals.

Sides placed from third to sixth will play-off for the right to join them.

Gold and bronze medal finals will be held on Sunday (March 10).
