Kazakhstan’s Yulia Galysheva delighted the home crowd by winning the women’s singles event on day one of the International Ski Federation Moguls World Cup at Shymbulak Mountain Resort.
The reigning world champion grabbed the gold medal with a score of 79.69 points, beating France’s Perrine Laffont by a margin of 0.58.
Rounding out the podium was Canada’s Justine Dufour-Lapointe with 76.64 points.
Victory for Galysheva, the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic bronze medallist, was her second of the season.
Her first came in Calgary in January.
In the men’s event, Japan’s Ikuma Horishima triumphed with 81.72 points for his first win of the campaign.
The 21-year-old finished 2.35 points ahead of Pyeongchang 2018 gold medallist Mikaël Kingsbury of Canada.
It is only the second competition of the season that Kingsbury has failed to win.
Taking the bronze medal was Sweden’s Walter Wallberg with 78.67 points.
Action is due to conclude tomorrow when the season-concluding dual moguls event is scheduled to take place.
