Paris will host a major new gathering of influential sports governance figures next year, it has been confirmed.

The French capital will stage Global Sports Week between February 5 and 7 at the Carrousel du Louvre.

It will bring together the key decision-makers from the world of sport as well as athletes, Government officials and big players from other industries.

Talks and meetings will be held with the event in line to become a regular fixture before the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympics.

Three organisations have come together to create the event - Vivendi Group, Sport Capital and the Sport Innovation Summit.

Between them €1.5 million (£1.3 million/$1.7 million) has already been invested with the initiative backed by French Sports Minister Roxana Maracineanu, an Olympic silver medallist and world champion in swimming.

Global Sports Week has been chosen as the name as a nod to the famous Paris Fashion Week.

"This is both a professional event, an international platform that brings together sport and society decision-makers and a market place, i.e a place to do business," said Lucien Boyer, the director of marketing at Vivendi Group, to L'Equipe.

Vivendi will now travel to Olympic capital Lausanne, Beijing, Los Angeles and London to promote the event.

He hopes that Tony Estanguet, the triple canoeing Olympic champion who is President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, will be among those to attend.

"Tony Estanguet came to the Global Sports Forum in Barcelona so we hope he will be in Paris," he said.

"Several themes will be discussed at Global Sports Week, although it is too early to announce them.

"They will reflect the moment and a society increasingly influenced by the sport that invites itself in education, health, politics, environment and consumption."
