Hsieh Su-wei of Taiwan continued her surprise run at the Dubai Tennis Championships as she added fourth seed Karolína Plíšková to her list of giant killings to reach the semi-finals.

The unseeded world number 31, who overcame fifth seed Angelique Kerber of Germany yesterday, mounted another third-set fightback to secure a 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 triumph at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre.

Hsieh is next due to face second seed Petra Kvitová in this Women's Tennis Association Premier 5 tournament.

Kvitová, a two-time Grand Slam winner having won at Wimledon in 2011 and 2014, reached the last four with a comfortable 6-4, 6-0 win against Viktória Kužmová of Slovakia.

Second seed Simona Halep of Romania was another high-profile casualty today as she was beaten 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 by Switzerland's Belinda Bencic.

"It was not easy to come back," Hsieh said.

"Second set was slowing down a little bit, so it's not a good sign."

Hsieh added: "I still make some mistakes, but I'm glad that I keep trying, keep trying, keep trying.

"Finally it works, so I survive."

Kvitová is the highest seed left in the draw after world number one Naomi Osaka was beaten in the last 16 earlier this week.

The 28-year-old Czech, who took a short break following her loss to Osaka in the final of the Australian Open, admitted she was "very pleased" to get past Kužmová.

"I didn't give [Kuzmova] any time to do her job, maybe turn the match on her way," Kvitová said.
