Defending champions Denmark, who are also hosting the event, gained another win at the European Mixed Team Badminton Championships today with a 4-1 victory over The Netherlands in Group One.

Playing at the Frederiksberg Hallerne, the favourites to defend their title won the first three matches to seal the win in the best of five tie with two games to spare.

Starting with the men's singles, former world champion Viktor Axelsen put his country 1-0 up with a 21-11, 21-8 win over Joran Kweekel.

The overall score became 2-0 when Mila Blitchfeldt beat Gayle Mahulette 21-13, 21-14 and the win was sealed at the end of the next match as Anders Skaarup Ramussen and Frederick Sogaard beat Jacco Arends and Ruben Jille 17-21, 21-13, 21-9.

With victory sealed for Denmark their opponents then got themselves on the scoreboard as Debora Jille and Cheryl Seinen saw off Maiken Fruegaard and Rikke Soby in the women's doubles, 16-21, 21-15, 21-17

In the other Group One match France surpassed Spain 4-1 having lost to Denmark yesterday. 

In Group Two the 2017 runners up Russia continued their strong start to the tournament with a 5-0 victory over Germany.

England meanwhile bounced back from a 3-2 defeat to Russia on day one with a 5-0 whitewash win of their own over Ireland.

Tomorrow group action will continue as hosts Denmark face Spain and France play The Netherlands in Group One, while in Group Two England will face Germany and Russia come up against Ireland, who are yet to win at the Championships.
