One of Ghana's top professional sports administrators, Francis Nana Yaw Asare, has been appointed to the Organising Committee for the first African Beach Games, due to be held in June.

Asare - who has previously worked at Ghana's National Sports Authority as a sports development officer and as secretary general at the Ghana Cricket Association - will work as a National Olympic Committee (NOC) relations manager and will deal with 24 English speaking countries including Ghana.

He is also expected to "provide solutions" for NOCs both before and during the Games in Sale in Cape Verde.

This will be through "proactive communication and information sharing".

The Games will take place from June 14 to June 23, with Asare set to take up his post at the end of this month.

He holds a Masters degree in Sports and Olympic Studies from the University of Tsukuba in Japan and is currently studying for a second Masters at Swansea University in Wales.

As well as having held positions at the National Sports Authority and GCA, Asare also worked as Ghana's Accreditation Liaison Officer for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and as an "anti-doping chaperone" during the test events leading up to the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

The 2019 African Beach Games will feature around 1,000 athletes from 54 countries, competing across 11 different sports.

It will serve as a qualification event for the 2019 World Beach Games, due to go ahead in San Diego in the United States in October.
