Mahmoud, who topped the podium in the weight class at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, earned a narrow triumph on the final day of the event at the Dubai Club for People of Determination in the United Arab Emirates city.

The 31-year-old, a world champion in 2014, lifted a total of 139kg to beat Loveline Obiji of Nigeria by a slender 1kg margin.

Perla Patricia Barcenas Ponce de León of Mexico claimed bronze on an overall tally of 135kg.

Mahmoud's compatriot Amany Ali was the other Egyptian gold medallist on the last day of the World Cup competition as she won the women's under-86kg division.

Ali also took gold ahead of a Nigerian athlete as she lifted 126kg, 1kg more than silver medallist Folashade Oluwafeniayo.

Britain's Louise Sugden did enough for bronze on 112kg.

In the men's heavyweight categories, there were victories for Mongolia and Jordan.

Mongolia's Sodnompiljee Enkhbayar secured the under-107kg crown having hoisted 240kg, giving him a comfortable win over the rest of the field.

Zhyrgalbek Orosbaev of Kyrgyzstan finished second on 206kg, while Abbas Naisan of Iraq sealed bronze with 203kg.

Jamil Elshebli of Jordan also triumphed by just 1kg as he clinched the men's over-107kg honours with a total of 232kg.

Konstantinos Dimou of Greece was shaded into second having managed 231kg, while bronze went to Shamo Aslanov of Azerbaijan.
