Second seed Man Wai Vivian Kong claimed the gold medal at the International Fencing Federation (FIE) Women's Épée World Cup in Barcelona after beating South Korea's Lee Hyein in the final.

Kong, who last month became the first fencer from Hong Kong to win a FIE World Cup title with success in Cuba's capital Havana, triumphed 15-12 at the Spanish city's Institut Nacional d'Educació Física de Catalunya.

She had earlier defeated Estonia's Kristina Kuusk 15-11 in the semi-finals.

Lee booked her place in the final by overcoming Poland's Aleksandra Zamachowska 15-7.

Kuusk and Zamachowska were the bronze medallists.

Top seed Mara Navarria of Italy was knocked out in the last-16 by the United States' Kelley Hurley, who lost to Zamachowska in the quarter-finals.

At the Men's Épée World Cup in Vancouver, Koki Kano of Japan won gold.

The Asian Games bronze medallist defeated Italy's Olympic silver medallist Enrico Garozzo in the final, 15-7 at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

Koki had earlier got past Alexandre Bardenet of France in the semi-finals, 15-8.

Garozzo crept into the final, edging past United States fencer Jacob Hoyle 15-14.
