Scotland’s Paul Foster and Alex Marshall were crowned open pairs champions at the World Indoor Bowls Championships in Norfolk.

The Scottish pairing were seeded fifth heading into the tournament at the Potters Resort.

They followed a quarter-final win over defending champions Mark Dawes and Jamie Chestney of England by beating fellow Scots Colin Walker and Ronnie Duncan to reach the final.

Foster and Marshall faced the challenge of England’s Nick Brett and Greg Harlow, the tournament second seeds, in the showpiece contest.

A strong display from Foster and Marshall saw them emerge as 13-8, 13-6 winners to secure the title.

It left Brett and Harlow as the runners-up for the second straight year in the open pairs event.

Harlow also began his singles campaign today as the second seed progressed from his first round match.

He beat Australia’s Brendan Egan 1-6, 9-5 to set up a match against England’s Andy Thomson.

The mixed pairs final will take place tomorrow.
