South Korea got gold, silver and bronze in the men's 1500m race at the ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup in Almaty ©ISU,

South Korean skaters won six medals from today's competition at the International Skating Union (ISU) Short Track Speed Skating World Cup in the Kazakh city of Almaty. 

South Korea dominated the podium for the men's 1,500 metres race at the Halyk Arena, a venue built for the 2017 Winter Universiade. 

Olympic champion Lim Hyojun won the event in 2min 19.167sec, with compatriots Kim Gun Woo and Hwang Dae Heon placing second and third in 2:19.201 and 2:19.277 respectively. 

"This is my first gold medal after the Olympic Games and it means a lot to me," said Lim.

"Now I think that all my competitions will get better."

Kim Geon Hee won gold in the women's 1,500m event for South Korea, finishing in 2:25.280 to beat Russia's Ekaterina Efremenkova in 2:25.460 and China's Li Jinyu in 2:25.571.

South Korea finished off a successful day with two bronze medals in the 1,000m event.

After Hungary's Liu Shaoang won the men's race in 1:27.418, South Korea's Lee June Seo recorded a time of 1:27.574 to finish behind second-placed Sjinkie Knegt of The Netherlands in 1:27.438.

Noh Ah Rum then got the bronze medal in the women's race, finishing in 1:29.128. 

Suzanne Schulting of The Netherlands won that event with a time of 1:28.887 while Canada's Kim Boutin was second with 1:28.974.

There will be a chance to win more medals tomorrow in the men and women's 500m and 1,500m, the mixed 2,000m relay, women's 3,000m relay and the men's 5,000m relay on the concluding day of the event.
