Hosts France defeated Slovenia 30-21 at the European Women's Handball Championships to recover from their opening day loss to Russia.

The fixture, held at the Palais des sports Jean Weille in Nancy, left Slovenia bottom of Group B but gave France the boost they needed after beginning the tournament with a defeat.

Denmark were then victorious against Poland 28-21. 

In Group A, Denmark beat Poland 28-21 at the XXL Hall in Nantes, while Sweden narrowly won against Serbia 22-21.

Tomorrow will see Germany against Romania and the Czech Republic against Norway in Group D, with Croatia meeting Hungary and The Netherlands taking on Spain in Group C.

At the Asian Women's Handball Championships in Kumamoto, Kazakhstan and China are still unbeaten in the competition. 

Kazakhstan defeated New Zealand 51-14 at the Yatsushiro Gymnasium in Group A and China triumphed against India 29-12 in Group B at the Yamaga Gymnasium. 

The remaining games saw Australia beat Iran 29-24 and Singapore lost to Hong Kong 25-12.

Hosts Japan return to the competition tomorrow with a tie against Iran, with Hong Kong playing South Korea, India taking on Singapore and New Zealand meeting Australia.
