The 2017 super-G world champion reigned supreme in yesterday's downhill and again came out on top by clocking a time of 1min 47.68sec.

Schmidhofer's team-mate Cornelia Huetter, winner of the corresponding event in Lake Louise last season, was 0.44sec adrift in second place.

Olympic combined champion Michelle Gisin of Switzerland did enough for third after she finished in 1:48.15.

Over the past 10 World Cup seasons, the winner of the first day of downhill racing in the Canadian proved victorious in the second race and Schmidhofer's victory saw her maintain that trend.

She became the first Austrian woman to achieve the Lake Louise downhill double since Renate Goetschl managed the feat in 1998.

Schmidhofer will hope to wrap up a superb weekend when she competes in the super-G tomorrow.

"It's unbelievable for me," Schmidhofer said. 

"I'm excited and a little bit surprised that I started the season so great."

At the men's World Cup in Beaver Creek, Max Franz recorded his second win of the season as he topped the super-G podium in a time of 1:01.91.

Mauro Caviezel of Switzerland was second, while the Norwegian duo of Aksel Lund Svindal and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde and Italy's Dominik Paris all completed the famous Birds of Prey course in a time of 1:02.32 to share third place.

The men's event concludes with a giant slalom competition tomorrow.
