England's hopes of winning eight of the 10 finals at the European Union Boxing Championships in Vallodolid in Spain were only half realised – but it was a great night for twins Pat and Luke McCormack, who won two of their nation's four golds.

Luke, who won European silver last year and Commonwealth bronze this year, was first up of the two 23-year-olds from Sunderland on the final night of this European Boxing Confederation tournament.

He won the light welterweight 64 kilogram gold through a unanimous decision against Italy's Paolo Di Lernia, with bronze going to Dimitri Galagot of Moldova and Frederik Jensen of Denmark.

Pat, who won European silver last year and Commonwealth gold this year, then took the welterweight 69kg title, beating Spain's Youba Sissokho by a 4-1 margin.

Ireland's Kieron Molloy and Filip Wachala of Poland earned bronze.

England's other wins came in the super heavyweight over-91kg category and light-heavyweight 81kg class.

Frazer Clarke beat Bulgaria's Petar Belberov on a 5-0 judges' verdict in the super-heavyweight final.

Bronze went to Spain's Ghadfa Drissi and Marko Milun of Croatia.

Benjamin Whittaker won the light-heavyweight gold, beating Romania's Andrei Aradoie on a 4-1 verdict, with bronzes going to Matus Strnisko of Slovakia and Gaetan Ntambwe of France.

But it was also a night of reverses for England.

Spain's Gabriel Escobar Mascucano was winner in the flyweight 52kg category, beating England's William Cawley 5-0 in the final.

Nodari Darbaidze of Georgia and Tinko Banabakov of Bulgaria were bronze medallists.

Ireland's Kurt Walker beat England's Peter McGrail by a narrow 3-2 margin in the bantamweight 56kg class.

Georgia's Artyush Gomtsyan and Jordan Rodriguez of France took bronze medals.

France's Sofiane Oumiha was victorious in the lightweight 60kg class, beating England's Calum French on a 5-0 verdict.

Poland's Radomir Obrusniak and Francesco Maietta took bronze.

And the final English defeat came in the middleweight 75kg class where Slovakia's Andrej Csemez earned a 5-0 verdict over Carl Fail.

Moldova's Victor Carapcevschii and Salvatore Cavallaro of Italy won bronze.

Italy's Federico Serra won the light flyweight 46-49kg title on a walkover, with Georgia's Sakhil Alakhverdovi taking silver.

Spain's Martin Molina Salvador and Poland's Jakub Slominski earned bronze.

The heavyweight 91kg category saw victory for Italy's Aziz Mouhidine, who defeated Croatia's Toni Filipi on a unanimous decision.

Cheavon Clarke of England and Cristian Filip of Romania took bronze.
