Vasileiou prevailed with an overall time of 11min 54.13sec, beating previous champion Tomas Svoboda of the Czech Republic by a margin of 1.77 seconds.

They were joined on the podium by Kazakhstan's Temirlan Temirov, who crossed the line in 12:21.90.

Germany's Lena Gottwald won the senior women's individual biathle gold medal in 14:17.01.

South Africa's Lushano Adendorff Smit secured the silver medal in 14:49.08, while Czech Republic's Eliska Pribylova took the bronze in 15:31.08.

Pribylova finished the week with a medal from all four days of the event.

In the junior boys' category, Kazakhstan's Arman Kydyrtayev came out on top in 12:17.69.

Compatriot Meirlan Iskakov was the bronze medallist in 12:30.60, finishing behind South Africa's Dylan Kruger who clinched silver in 12:19.42.

South Africa went one better in the juniors girls' event as Tara Schwulst prevailed ahead of Czech Republic's Karolina Krenkova.

Schwulst posted a time of 14:30.60 with Krenkova second in 14:51.28.

Home favourite Noureen Elgamal completed the top three in 15:25.96.

There was more joy for the host nation at under-19 level as Ahmed Hefny, a silver medallist in triathle yesterday, went one better to top the men's podium in 12:53.02.
