Japan's Kento Momota continued his dominant run of form as he dispatched compatriot Kazumasa Sakai to progress to the quarter-finals of the Badminton World Federation French Open in Paris.

The reigning world champion, who arrived in the French capital having triumphed at the recent Denmark Open, recorded a 21-17, 21-17 win over Sakai at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin.

Momota, the top seed and world number one, will face India's Srikanth Kidambi for a place in the last four.

Kidambi reached the quarter-finals with a comeback victory over South Korea's Lee Dong-keun as he recovered from dropping the opening game to claim a 12-21, 21-16, 21-18 success.

Second seed Shi Yuqi of China is also through as he beat Ng Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong.

Shi, who lost the 2018 World Championships final to Momota, joined his Japanese adversary in the last eight with a 21-7, 21-10 win in just 33 minutes.

It was a similar story in the women's singles draw, which also resumed today, as top seed Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei booked her quarter-final place with ease.

Tai, who also triumphed at the Denmark Open and claimed the gold medal at the Asian Games in Indonesia earlier this year, ousted Gao Fangjie of China 21-12, 21-17.

Her opponent in the next round will be India's Saina Nehwal, a 10-21, 21-14, 21-17 winner over Japanese eighth seed Nozomi Okuhara in a marathon contested which lasted an hour and 12 minutes.

The tournament in Paris, due to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, continues tomorrow.
