Neither Medvedeva nor Uno participated at Skate America, the curtain-raiser, last weekend and have each decided to make their first appearance at the event in the Canadian city.

Medvedeva, who finished behind compatriot Alina Zagitova in the women's event at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, is expected to be in contention for Skate Canada gold.

Other challenges are likely to come from 2018 World Championships silver medallist Wakaba Higuchi of Japan and 2015 world champion Elizaveta Tuktamysheva of Russia.

Uno, a double World Championships silver medallist, headlines the men's event at Place Bell.

The 20-year-old Japanese skater will come up against 2018 Four Continents bronze medallist Jason Brown of the United States, Cha Jun-hwan of South Korea and Canada's Keegan Messing.

World Championships bronze medalists Vanessa James and Morgan Cipres of France are the favourites in the pairs competition, with Cheng Peng and Yang Jin of China and Canada's Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro among the other notable entrants.

Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue of the US will hope to secure their second straight win following their ice dance success at Skate America.

Victory for the American duo will also see them qualify for the season-ending ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating final in Vancouver in December.
