Japan and Venezuela won their fifth games in a row to finish top of their respective groups undefeated and qualify for the next stage of the World Baseball Softball Confederation Under-23 World Cup in Colombia.

Japan beat the host nation 7-2 at the Edgar Renteria Baseball Stadium in Barranquilla to get their latest win of the tournament and finish top of Group A.

It means they have reached the super-round phase of the event.

Mexico finished second in Group A after winning against South Africa, 13-3, and have also gone through.

With The Netherlands beating Chinese Taipei 10-9 today, either team or Colombia could grab the last qualification place in Group A depending on tomorrow's results.

Chinese Taipei will play Colombia, while The Netherlands play South Africa who are already out of the competition.

In Group B, Venezuela defeated South Korea 9-2 at Estadio de Beisbol 18 de Junio in Montería to also qualify for the super round unbeaten.

Joining them will be South Korea and the Dominican Republic, who beat the Czech Republic 8-7.

Puerto Rico's 3-2 victory over Australia had little impact on the teams' chances of progression, with both countries already out.

The super round will commence on October 25 after the final group games are played tomorrow.
