Zazou Hoffman won her first International Equestrian Federation Jumping World Cup title on home soil, triumphing in Del Mar in California tonight riding Samson II.

The 26-year-old finished the course in 41.68sec to triumph in a four-way jump off that saw Brazil's Marina Azevdeo finish second and another rider from the US, Georgina Bloomberg, come third.

The first clear round of the competition did not arrive until Eduardo Menezes from Brazil competed, and he was 22nd in the order.

Hoffman said she planned her winning ride based on his performance.

"I hadn't really considered how fast or not I was going to go," she said.

"After watching him, I realised I was going to have to be quite quick.

"I've ridden a lot of jump-offs this year on Samson with four faults, and I know that I can trust him and go fast, but it's just that fine line of risking too much."

Her win in California sees her shoot up the standings in the West Coast Sub League of the North American League, meaning she now sits top on 32 points from three legs.

The top three places are currently all held by riders from the US, with Eve Jobs second on 31 points and Uma O'Neill third on 24.

The North American League continues in Washington D.C on October 27.
