Defending champions India defeated fierce rivals Pakistan 3-1 as the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy continued in Oman's capital Muscat.

Both sides came into the match having won their opening round-robin clashes at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.

The Indians had to come from behind to triumph as Pakistan led through Mohammad Irfan, who took advantage of some slack defending to score.

Manpreet Singh brought the Indians back level with a fine individual goal, with the match all square at the break.

He then bagged his second in the third quarter and his side did not look back, making it three when Dilpreet Singh registered.

In the early match, South Korea and Japan collided after both losing their first match.

It was the Japanese who would get their campaign up-and-running, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Shota Yamada and Wataru Matsumoto.

India will play Japan in the only game on the schedule tomorrow.

The top four at the end of the round-robin will progress to the semi-finals.
