The Germans secured their place after winning their final Group A game, beating Belarus 6-3 at the Kelowna Curling Club.

"We had a good start and sometimes a bit of luck, which you need to win," Germany’s vice-skip Andrea Schoepp said.

"We are still a little bit shaky and I had a really bad game today.

"I can play much better than I did today, but it's a team sport.

"You just have to play well, make your two shots and if all players do that it's okay.

"All the teams are really equal, you have some that are maybe a bit better, not only because of their delivery but many other things."

Elsewhere in Group A, defending champions Scotland remain the only undefeated side in the competition after their 7-1 win over Turkey.

Despite their defeat, Turkey clinched the third play-off spot.

Group C's final play-off spot was filled in the very last session of the round robin, when Sweden beat Chinese Taipei 8-5.

"I feel happy, very, very happy," Sweden’s skip Rickard Hallstroom said.

"Yesterday, we thought we were more or less out of the tournament.

"We're not too happy about our first few games - we didn't play well, but we said 'let's give ourselves a chance today'."

Spain finished their round-robin campaign with an 11-1 victory over Croatia to ensure they finished at the top of Group C.

Last year's bronze medallists Czech Republic finished second to claim their playoff place, despite losing 10-8 to Poland in the 24th and final session.

In Group B, Russia won their sole game today, defeating The Netherlands 8-2, to secure first place.

Behind them in second place are Denmark, who won five games in a row to close out their round-robin.

Their victories today came against Australia, 6-4, and Ireland, 9-4.

Switzerland took the final play-off place from Group B with a 9-5 win over the United States, finishing their round-robin with a record of six wins and two losses.

Hosts Canada, Norway and Slovenia claimed the Group D play-off places, with the third spot awarded in the section’s final round-robin session.

Slovenia and Slovakia faced off, with the winner taking their place in the playoffs, and the game went all the way to an extra end.

The Slovenians came out on top, scoring three points in that extra end to secure a 9-6 win and the nation’s first-ever play-off appearance at world level.

Norway secured first place with an 8-1 victory over Hungary and they progress directly to the quarter-final stage of the playoffs tomorrow evening.

Last year’s runners-up Canada, 10-1 winners over Slovakia today, finished second and will take part in the qualification round, in the afternoon, alongside Slovenia.
