The International Federation for Athletes with Intellectual Impairments (INAS) has invited expressions of interest from members to host the 2022 INAS Football World Championships.

The competition takes place every four years with the 2018 edition taking place in Karlstad, Sweden.

The deadline for expressing interest in bidding for the Championships is December 14.

Saudi Arabia won the 2018 title after they overcame challenges from Sweden, France, Germany, Argentina, Poland, Japan and Russia.

South Africa were expected to compete, but they withdrew shortly before the competition in August.

"This summer Sweden hosted an exceptional competition which raised the bar for future World Championships," said John Ball, chair of the INAS Football Committee.

"As well as high quality training and match facilities across multiple venues, there was also a livestream of the games and the local organisers invested in raising awareness of the competition to the media and public in Sweden.

"By starting the bid process earlier than in the past, we therefore hope to give the winning Local Organising Committee the maximum possible time to prepare and deliver another exceptional event."

The 2022 World Championships are set to build on the success of 2018 as INAS hope that more teams will join.

Twelve teams could compete for the title in four years time.

After receiving the expressions of interest to host the event, the INAS Football Committee will work with interested members to put together full bids.

The deadline for formal bids will be June 30, 2019.
