World number two Caroline Wozniacki is through to the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) China Open final as world number 20, Anastasija Sevastova, beat US Open champion Naomi Osaka to join her.

The WTA Premier Mandatory event is heading towards its conclusion as the finalists were decided.

Wozniacki eased past her Chinese opponent Qiang Wang in the semi-final, 6-1, 6-3, and advances to the final searching for her 30th career title and third at Premier Mandatory level.

The Dane won her two Premier Mandatory titles in Beijing in 2010 and in Indian Wells in 2011.

Wozniacki is also the reigning WTA Finals and Australian Open champion and the highest ranked player left in the tournament following world number one Simona Halep's first round retirement.

In the other semi-final, Sevastova defeated Japan's world number eight Osaka, 6-4, 6-4 for her fourth top 10 win of the season.

Sevastova has never won a Premier Mandatory event but needs to win the title to keep her chances of qualifying for the WTA Finals alive.

Either way, the Latvian is guaranteed to reach her highest career ranking after the final.

If she wins against Wozniacki, Sevastova will rise to world number 11 but only to world number 12 if she loses.

Sevastova has never won against Wozniacki in four career meetings and the Dane has only ever conceded one set to the 28-year-old.

Flying the flag for Latvia, Sevastova is only the second Latvian to reach a Premier Mandatory final after compatriot Jelena Ostapenko was runner up in Miami this year.

In the men's Beijing Open, top seed Juan Martin del Potro progressed to the final by walkover against Italy's Fabio Fognini.

Fognini withdrew from the semi-final because of ankle pain.

The Argentine will now play Georgia's Nikoloz Basilashvili in the final after the Georgian defeated Kyle Edmund of Great Britain.

Fifth seed Edmund was beaten in straight sets as Basilashvili won 7-6, 6-4 to advance to the final.
