Team World still trail Team Europe 7-5 going into the final day of the 2018 Laver Cup in Chicago, despite South Africa’s Kevin Anderson avenging his Wimbledon final defeat by Novak Djokovic.

Team Europe had moved into a 7-1 lead after singles wins for Germany’s Alexander Zverev and Switzerland’s Roger Federer at the United Center, but Anderson's triumph and a doubles victory for the United States’ Jack Sock and Australia’s Nick Kyrgios reduced the deficit.

Anderson beat his Serbian opponent 7-6, 5-7 10-6, blasting 17 aces past the world number three.

It was another disappointing night for Djokovic, who teamed up with Federer yesterday when the pair suffered a doubles loss to Anderson and Sock.

"We've had some really close matches haven't gone our way and I really wanted to put us back in there," Anderson said

"It's not easy playing one of the best players of all time, but what an amazing atmosphere.

"I felt I played a great match, beating Novak on any stage is great and here in Chicago makes it extra special."

Djokovic was left to rue a series of errors.

"Unfortunately, I’ve two lost matches," he said.

"I gave it my best to beat Kevin.

"He was playing fantastic."

In the two other singles matches, Federer registered a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 win over Kyrgios, while Zverev was forced to save a match point against the US’s John Isner before prevailing 3-6, 7-6, 10-7.

Following Anderson’s match with Djokovic, Sock and Kyrgios joined forces to win the day's doubles match, beating Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov and Belgium’s David Goffin 6-3, 6-4.

Team Europe need another six points to retain the title they won in the inaugural competition last year.

Three points per match are on offer tomorrow, with the first team to 13 points lifting the trophy.

Today’s matches were worth two points each.
