A new campaign has been launched in Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Peru to promote the inclusion of those with disabilities in society.

The campaign, named "En sus marcas, listos…inclusion. Elige tu meta", translates into English as "Ready, set…inclusion. Choose your goal".

"Elige tu meta" aims to break down the prejudices and barriers facing those with disabilities in sport, using the achievements of Paralympians to inspire them and improve participation and opportunities.

The material produced by the campaign will be available for use by the National Paralympic Committees of the five countries involved.

The campaign has been created by the Agitos Foundation, an organisation developing sporting activities for those with an impairment and the development arm of the International Paralympic Committee.

They worked in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank, the Colombian Presidential Agency for International Cooperation and the Colombian Administrative Department of Sport, Recreation, Physical Activity and Effective use of Leisure Time.

"Sport is one of the most powerful tools for the social and economic inclusion of people with disabilities," Jose Cabo, the Agitos Foundation development senior manager, said.

"Society takes pride in the athletes who represent their countries and they inspire society with their performances.

"The campaign promotes the access of more people with an impairment to sports, to impact their lives and change perceptions of disability in the countries involved."
