Finland's Hanne Pirkola has been appointed event director of the 2020 Men's World Floorball Championships in Helsinki.

The 34-year-old, who has a Bachelor of Economics in marketing and currently works as the event manager at the Football Association of Finland, officially begins her role on October 22.

She will be tasked with leading the tournament as a whole and will also be responsible for overseeing the cooperation between the Organising Committee and relevant partners including broadcasters and sponsors.

"Floorball is really fascinating sport and the Men's World Floorball Championships will be an event that interests people. 

"Together with sponsors and other stakeholders, we want to create an event that will attract also new floorball followers. 

"In this way, we can increase floorball's overall coverage and popularity and at the same time accomplish long term results."

The host nation will aim to defend their title at the tournament in the Finnish capital following their triumph two years ago in Riga.

Finland claimed their third world crown with victory over eight-time winners Sweden in the final.
