It proved to be a tight game throughout as it was 15-13 after the first quarter and 29-21 at the end of the second.

Malaysia then stretched their lead to ten points in the penultimate quarter and maintained their advantage to the end.

Sri Lanka also continued their winning run by overcoming hosts Singapore 74-61.

Sri Lanka and Singapore qualified for the last World Cup in Sydney, Australia in 2015.

The Sri Lankan team led the first quarter, 18-12, and proceeded to win the second and third quarters.

At 58-42 after the third quarter Singapore fought back to win the fourth quarter by three goals but it wasn’t enough to overturn the advantage that Sri Lanka had built up in the first three.

The Maldives impressed against Chinese Taipei as they inflicted a crushing 73-10 defeat on their opponents.

The Philippines managed to pick up their first win of the tournament, 62-36 against Pakistan.

Japan faced India in their initial second round match but lost despite a late surge.

India led by 50 points to 36 by the end of the third quarter and had won every quarter.

Japan then outscored India by 21 goals to 15 in the final quarter but had to accept the 65-57 defeat.

India suffered a day one loss to Sri Lanka but have since won every game.

The opening game of round two was closely contested in the first half before Thailand ran away with the victory, defeating Brunei 66-33.

Day two of round two continues tomorrow, with the tournament concluding on Thursday (September 6).
