Maltese Olympic Committee President Julian Pace Bonello hosted a meeting to discuss karate.

He welcomed the President of the Small States of Europe Karate Federation Andreas Vasileiou and his Maltese Karate Federation counterpart Kenneth Abela to the organisation's headquarters.

Top of the agenda was the potential addition of karate to the programme of the 2023 Games of the Small States of Europe.

Malta will be hosting the event in its capital city, Valletta.

The sport will feature at the 2021 edition in Andorra and is bidding to expand its presence at the event which features European nations with populations of fewer than one million. 

Antonio Espinós, the Spanish President of both the World Karate Federation and European Karate Federation, is a big supporter of the sport appearing at the Games.
