Englishmen Tommy Fleetwood and Ian Poulter are tied for the lead alongside the United States world number two Justin Thomas after the second round at the World Golf Championship (WGC) Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio.

Poulter initially led on his own after round one yesterday, but he now shares the lead at Firestone South in a three-way tie at 11 under par.

A bogey free round of seven under from in-form Fleetwood saw him shoot up the leaderboard today, while a similarly impressive round of 64 from Thomas including only one bogey, saw him also reach the top.

"It was definitely one of the better putting days I've had in a while," Thomas, who averaged 1.3 putts a hole during his round, said.

"I just hit a lot of quality putts.

"That's what's most important."

The sole bogey for the defending FedEx Cup champion came at the par-five 16th.

His second shot hit a tree and then he found the pond in front of the green with his third.

Though he is tied with Thomas overall, Fleetwood went one better on the day to card a 63.

"I was just signing my card there and realised I hadn't had a five, you always remember those rounds without a five," he told BBC Sport.

"It was a really good round of golf."

Poulter, meanwhile, has backed up his eight under par 62 from Thursday, with a three-under 67.

Elsewhere in the leaderboard Tiger Woods, winner of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational eight times before, sits in a tie for 10th after carding a two under par 688 today, while four-time major winner Rory McIlroy is in a tie for sixth on eight under.

The world number one Dustin Johnson is way down in a tie for 46th after finishing one over par today, meaning he is even par for the tournament.
