Chilean cousins Marco and Esteban Grimalt and Germany's Teresa Mersmann and Cinja Tillman won the men's and women's finals respectivley at the Beach Volleyball World Tour Tokyo Open.

The pairing from Chile earned a 21-12, 21-17 win over Serbia's Stefan Basta and Lazar Kolaric at the three-stat event.

It ended the latest leg of the International Volleyball Federation event which offers a snapshot of what things might look like in Japan's capital during the 2020 Olympics.

Mersmann and Tillman defeated Finland's Taru Lahti-Liukkonen and Aniina Parkkinen 22-20, 21-17.

The Grimalts took a 7-3 lead in the opening set and extended it to 12-5 as their opponents paid for several miscalculations on their attacks before concluding with a 21-12 scoreline.

The Serbians played better in the second set, but they could not alter the course of the match and Esteban Grimalt had the final say as he won the title with a cross-court hit.

"It was an awesome week," Esteban said.

"It was difficult to play but we kept fighting until the end.

"Now we bring home the gold.

"I want to congratulate Serbia, they had a great week and season."

Lahti and Parkkinen twice pulled back in the opening set of the women's final to level at 17-17 and 20-20 before the Germans won two crucial points.

The second set was slightly easier for Mersmann and Tillman.

Casey Patterson and Stafford Slick rallied from a set down to win the men's bronze medal match 18-21, 21-13, 15-10 against Germany's Philipp Arne Bergmann and Yannick Harms.

Japanese duo Megumi Murakami and Miki Ishii delivered an astonishing performance in front of their home fans by capturing the bronze medal despite going 6-0 down in the opening set.

Murakami and Ishii eventually defeated Norway's Ingrid Lunde and Oda Johanne Ulveseth 21-18, 21-17.
