Wagner one of the few headline players in action today not from Britain, made it through to the last four after thrashing Japan’s Shota Kawano in straight sets today, 6-0, 6-1 in this Super Series event on the International Tennis Federation Uniqlo tour.

In the same competition the second seed, seven-time Grand Slam champion and Britain's Andy Lapthrone , also made it through to the semi-finals by beating Brazil’s Ymanitu Silva 7-6, 6-2 at the Nottingham Tennis Centre,.

Another Briton Richard Green made it through by demolishing the fourth seed, Koji Sugeno from Japan 6-0, 6-2.

Green and Lapthrone are now due to face each other in the semi-finals, while Wagner will play Heath Davidson from Australia in the other last four match after the man from down under saw off Canada’s Robert Shaw for the loss of just two games.

Outside of the men’s quad draw, other notable results from today include Lucy Shuker from Great Britain’s victory over her compatriot Lauren Jones 6-2, 6-1, in the women’s singles first round.

Shuker entered this week’s tournament having reached her first Grand Slam final in five years at Wimbledon earlier this month, so she will be looking to go a step further in Nottingham and take the title.

In the men’s singles, the Wimbledon doubles champions Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid each played their own individual matches today.

Hewett, second seed in the draw, won his second round match against yet another Briton Dermot Bailey 6-2, 7-5.

Gordon Reid meanwhile also won.

He took the first set comfortably against Japan’s Kouhei Suzuki 6-1, but then was taken to a tie break in the second, eventually prevailing 6-1, 7-6.

Tomorrow’s play is scheduled to see quarter-final and semi-final matches take place in all of the draws.
