Ryan Matienzo topped the men’s podium with a time of 36min 15.32sec, while Genina Criss took the women’s gold medal in 47:54.49.

Guam’s Benjamin Middlebrooke was the men’s runner-up in 39:45.49, followed by Pohnpei’s Casey Henry in 43:39.85.

The women’s second-place finisher was Pohnpei’s Reloliza Saimon in 49:01.58 with Palau’s Anaya Masang third in 50:04.31.

Also taking place today at the Yap Sports Complex Track were the men’s and women’s 100m events with Nauru’s Jonah Harris winning the former in 11.07sec and Guam’s Regine Tugade the latter in 12.38.

Palau’s Rodman Teltull was the men’s silver medallist in 11.10, while Chuuk’s Scott Fiti came away with the bronze in 11.22.

Zarinae Sapong of the Northern Mariana Islands finished second in the women’s race in 13.12, beating Guam’s Shania Bulala to the silver medal by a margin of 0.04 seconds.

Out in the field, there was further success for Guam in the women’s long jump and women’s javelin.

Tugade led a one-two-three for the country in the long jump with a leap of 4.95m.

Bulala finished second with 4.84m, while Richelle Tugade came third with 4.45m.

In the javelin, Genie Gerardo came out on top with a throw of 28.17m.

Pohnpei’s Sandonia Likor claimed the silver medal with 24.75m and Palau’s Amaya Ngirkelau secured the bronze with
22.22m.

The men’s discus saw Palau’s Florian Temegil triumph with a throw of 39.75m.

The Marshall Islands’ Sione Aho finished second with 36.04m ahead of home favourite Javez Mooteb with 31.99m. 

The individual spearfishing event was also held today with Guam's Michael Generaux securing victory with a total of 177.5lbs.

Palau's Luis Ongalibang was his nearest challenger with 143.5lbs.

Completing the top three was Pohnpei's Taylor Paul with 126.5lbs.

The spearfishing team event is due to take place tomorrow.

It is due to be followed by the medal ceremonies for both the individual and team events.

A total of 13 sports are on the programme.
