Liberia have selected two taekwondo athletes for this year's African Youth Games, which take place later this month.

Both Philip Sarnoy and Richard Tellewoyan have been selected for the multi-sport event in Algerian capital Algiers.

Competition will take place between July 17 and 27.

It will be the third edition of the continental event.

The duo's coach Paul Dennis told the Liberian Observer about preparations.

He said that for the past months the athletes have been learning the tournament's rules and undergoing physical training.

"This week, they will begin doing techniques, tactics and skills training in the gym," he added.

Liberia were represented by one athlete at last year's World Taekwondo Championships in South Korean city Muju.

Loveton Chea competed in the men's under-63 kilogram division and advanced from the round-of-128 when his Albanian opponent Romario Noka was disqualified.

He then drew Rio 2016 Olympic champion Zhao Shuai of China in the next round who won via referee stoppage.

Zhao then went on to win the world title.

Chea also competed at the 2015 World Championships in Russian city Chelyabinsk.
