Egypt ended the first World University Modern Pentathlon Championships on a winning note as they won the team event at the University of Budapest.

Rashad Sheriff, Nazeir Sheriff, Morsy Haydy and Elgendy Ahmed held off the challenge of the Italian team after moving past them into the lead by winning the fencing event and then making sure of their grip on the first team gold of this International University Sports Federation (FISU) event by winning the concluding laser run.

The Italians - Riccardo Agazzotti, Alessandro Colasanti, Emma Rinaudo and Roberto Micheli - scored 1454 points, with Egypt’s winning total being 1463.

Poland’s team of Maciej Dukielski, Daniel Lawrynowicz, Marta Kobecka and Lukasz Gutkowski claimed the bronze medal with a total of 1407, 14 points clear of the first host team.

This was the best Hungarian result for the four-day event at the Ludovika University Campus.
